Carl Zimmer has a great science blog called The Loom. Yesterday he posted a fascinating article about the Killer Spinach causing health problems around the United States. It's all about a particular kind of E. Coli bacteria causing all the to-do. He explains that our bodies are already full of benign E. Coli’s doing very good things in our gut. But an alternative breed of the bug lives in the guts of certain animals and when it gets into us, it isn't pretty what happens. He provides a lot of details about exactly how these little buggers actually do their dirty work. It’s pretty interesting in a dispassionate, scientific, horrific sort of way.
